Flagfox Firefox Plugin

Flagfox is an extension that displays a flag icon indicating the current webserver's physical location. Knowing where you're connected to adds an extra layer of awareness to your browsing and can be useful to indicate the native languages and legal jurisdictions that may apply. Additional information can be obtained via a multitude of external lookups and users can add their own custom actions. All actions can be added to the flag icon's context menu and set to icon click or keyboard shortcuts for quick access.

Clicking the flag icon loads our default action, Geotool, which gives a detailed map showing the city the server is in and other useful information such as its local time and ISP. Many other actions are available for a wide range of uses such as:

Flagfox is simple, unobtrusive, and uses relatively little resources. This gives a flag for the nationality of the actual location of the server you're connected to, rather than just the nationality of the domain name which may be different. Flagfox updates are provided on a monthly basis to keep this internal database accurate.

Google Shortcuts - All Google Services at a glance

Display all of your Google Services as buttons just next to your addressbar or anywhere you like it!

Does Mozilla support ActiveX controls? (Windows)

Mozilla does not support ActiveX controls natively. A plug-in for ActiveX controls (which also works with Netscape 4.x) is in development, with limitations: it will not download or install controls itself, and it will only host controls that are already installed and marked safe for scripting, so it is not as insecure as ActiveX normally is. The current plug-in does not yet allow controls to be scripted.

Note that ActiveX can pose a security risk to your computer.

Learning to use Firefox keyboard shortcuts to reduce your trips to the mouse can lead to a much more fulfilling web browsing experience, especially at those times that your mouse just isn't doing the trick.

Okay, you got me. I have, on occasion (read: often), neglected to charge my wireless mouse for long enough that, when it's time to get posting on Lifehacker, I find myself totally mouse-less.

Now you're thinking, "What, just because this wire-hating jerk can't remember to put his mouse on the charger every now and then, I'm supposed to get all excited about the idea of using Firefox without a mouse?" But that's not it at all, people!

I'm the kind of web surfer who's never terribly happy when he has to move his hand over to the mouse, and frankly, jumping over to the mouse every time you need to follow a link is so 2004. Check out the following Firefox keyboard shortcuts (some well-known, others not), and before long you'll forget all about the little rodent next to your keyboard.

Navigation from the toolbar

The address bar shortcut should be as instinctual as breathing by now, but there's a few more shortcuts to that top bar that you should keep in mind.

Select location bar: Ctrl/Cmd+L or Alt+D
Select search bar: Ctrl/Cmd+K
Back: Backspace or Alt/Cmd+Left
Forward: Alt/Option+Right or Shift+Backspace
Change search engine: Ctrl/Cmd+Down (Next) +Up (Previous)

The last shortcut, used to change the search engine, was a big discovery for me. I've always been interested in additional search bar plugins, but it was never worth the trip to the mouse. No problem any more.

Searching pages

The find-as-you-type feature was an epiphany. While Google is great at getting you to the right web page, Firefox's find-as-you-type feature gets you the rest of the way.

Opening pages

Unless you do all of your browsing in one page, these shortcuts are huge when you don't want to go running for your mouse.

Open link in new window: Shift+Enter
Open link in new tab: Ctrl/Cmd+Enter
Open address/search in new tab: Alt/Option+Enter

Used together with their respective shortcuts (address and search bar shortcuts and the find-as-you-type link shortcut), the page opening shortcuts go a long way toward mouse-less browsing.

Grab bag

The following shortcuts fall into a more general grab bag of useful shortcuts.

Caret browsing: F7
Refresh: Ctrl/Cmd+R or F5
Refresh (override cache): Ctrl/Cmd+F5 or Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+R
Switch tabs: Ctrl/Cmd+Tab
Select tab (1-9): Ctrl/Cmd+[1-9]
Compose email: Ctrl/Cmd+M

The preceding shortcuts are of mostly obvious usefulness. Switching tabs and reloading pages are must-have shortcuts for any mouse-eschewing Firefox-er. A less-known feature, Caret browsing, inserts a cursor into the text of the page and is very useful for highlighting and copying text.

So you're a web writer, huh?

If you've recently turned Firefox into a full-fledged web writer, then there are a couple more useful shortcuts that you need to know.

Spellcheck (with Spellbound extension): Ctrl+Shift+F7
Save Entry (with Scribe extension): Ctrl+S

And there's so much more!

Hate the mouse and the keyboard? While I can't solve that entirely, I can suggest that you throw some very useful and time-saving Quick searches into the mix.

Finally, if you haven't totally satisfied your shortcut cravings, you can install the Keyconfig extension. Keyconfig allows you to define Firefox shortcuts to your hearts content.

SECURE YOUR FIREFOX PASSWORDS

Always use the "Master Password" feature in Firefox.
This is very important in order to prevent some one from seeing your passwords.

If you have a good firewall no one can access your passwords via a remote computer.
So your passwords will remain safe even if you dont use a master password.
But problems may arise IF your firewall fails at an intrusion attempt.
Webpages can also use ActiveX controls to breach your browser security.
So it is recommended to always use a Master Password.

HOW TO ADD A MASTER PASSWORD?
Go to "Tools" Select "Options"
Go to "Security" tab and check the box named "Use a Master Password"

In the box that pops up, type the preferred master password twice.
Always use passwords that are easy to remember,
which has >10 characters,
which is a non dictionary word,
which is not a common name and
which is not the name of your ex-gf/bf.

Always use numbers in the password. If possible, add a symbol (eg: %) too.
It will take years to crack such a password.

Here are two firefox extensions which can be used to make your passwords even more secure.

Secure Log in 0.8.1.4

It works the same way as opera's wand log in.
It uses the default password manager in firefox and adds an icon to your statusbar and navigation bar.
When you reach a log in page for a stored password, the Key icon changes colour.
It can also play a custom sound file.
Now you just need to press the icon to Sign In.
This extension works in Firefox 3 Beta also.

Master Password Timeout 0.2.5

By default, 300 secs (5 min) of inactivity will lock the master security device,
but this value can be adjusted in the extension manager options window.
Users can also log out of the master security device manually from the tools or context menu.

When the master security device is locked, the master password must be entered to gain access to saved passwords.
You may assign a master password in Tools > Options > Privacy > Passwords > Set Master Password.

HOW TO KEEP UP WITH UR FAV SITE IN AN AUTOMATED MANNER?

Firefox has a wonderful inbuilt RSS reader. RSS readers makes it possible for people to
keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

I will explain how it works by an example,
Go to the site which you want to track.

Click on "Bookmarks" and select "Subscribe to this page"

In the new page that appears, use "Live Bookmarks" to subscribe to the feed. And press "Subscribe Now"

Go to the your Bookmarks Menu and you can easily access the Feed by selecting its name.

HOW TO SEE THE PASSWORDS STORED INSIDE FIREFOX

Most often we use "Remember Passwords" when we log in to a website.
There's an option to view all of it together.

Go to "Tools" and select "Options" (Shortcut to this step:Alt+O)

Click on "Show Passwords"

In the new menu that opens up, you can see the accounts in which you have asked
firefox to remember passwords. Again Click on "Show Passwords"

If you have enabled a master password, a new window will open up asking for it.
Enter it in the box and press "Ok" If you haven't enabled it, you wont be prompted.

Finally a box will open up showing all the saved passwords.

Compact Firefox Layout

1. Go to the "View", select "Toolbars" and untick the "Bookmarks Toolbar"

2. Again go to "View", select "Sidebar" and untick any sidebar if you had enabled any.

3. Go to "View", then select "Customize"

4. In the "Customize Toolbar" box which appears, select "Show" - "Icons" (not 'Icons and Text', or Text).
If you want you can also tick 'Use Small Icons'

5. Now remove every icon in the Firefox toolbar at the top of the browser which you don’t need.
Eg: drag and drop the "Activity Indicator" into the "Customize Toolbar" box to remove it from the Firefox toolbar.
You can always re-add these at any time.

6. Now drag and drop each icon in the navigation bar(the bar below the firefox menu)
Firefox toolbar up to the top toolbar, just to the right of the 'Help' menu.
This includes the large white Address box, the Search bar. So as to have everything on a single toolbar.

7. Insert any additional icons from the "Customize Toolbar"' box into the relevant spots
on the top Firefox toolbar. When finished, click the Done button.

8. Finally, go to "View" and untick the the "Navigation Toolbar" as it should now be completely empty now.

9. Thats it you are done. You can re-arrange these anytime you want.

Memory leaks Firefox

What is firefox "memory leaks"?

Is it another term for "memory usage"?

And how to reduce those memory leaks?

Solution:

Memory leak in firefox was a bug in version 1.xx of the browser. The term "memory leak" is a bit of a misnomer as it has nothing to do with any leak. What actually happens is that firefox fails to free the virtual memory it is no longer using for other internal purposes, hence the memory usage piles up. It has been mostly fixed in version 2.xx of the browser.

How to fix it? Simple, upgrade to version 2.0+. If you still get trouble, install something like sessions manager extension.

Ideally firefox should be using between 100 to 300 K of your PC's RAM. If you see it using more than that, then it is a leak and u gotta get a "plumber" really fast.

Mozilla Sunbird is a free, open source, cross-platform calendar application developed by the Mozilla Foundation and many volunteers.[3] Announced in July 2003[4], Sunbird is a standalone version of the now discontinued Mozilla Calendar Extension.
It is currently developed as a standalone version of the Lightning extension for Mozilla Thunderbird that provides a calendar to the mail management application.

Versions:
The latest version is 0.7[5]. Version 0.3 of Sunbird, and its "sister project", Lightning, were scheduled to be released simultaneously in late September 2006 [6], but a release candidate was not made until October.[7] Mozilla Sunbird is described as "...a cross platform standalone calendar application based on Mozilla's XUL user interface language."[8] Version 0.3 of Sunbird is also available in a portable version [9].
Version 0.5 was released June 27, 2007[10] and includes support for Google Calendar via an extension[11].

Sun contributions:
Sun Microsystems has been contributing significantly to the Lightning extension project [12] to provide users with an alternative free and open source choice to Microsoft Office by combining OpenOffice.org and Thunderbird/Lightning. Sun's key focus areas in addition to general bug fixing are calendar views, team/collaboration features and support for the Sun Java System Calendar Server [13]. Since both projects share the same code base, any contribution to one of them is a direct contribution to the other.

Mozilla Calendar Project:
The project started with a single extension for the Mozilla projects known as Mozilla Calendar. It was a free software / open source calendar and personal information manager based on the open iCalendar standard. It was developed as part of the Mozilla project. Now, Mozilla Sunbird and the Lightning project have replaced the Mozilla Calendar. As with other Mozilla projects, Mozilla Calendar was cross-platform, and used the XUL user interface language. It worked with Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and FreeBSD.
The Mozilla Calendar project was announced by the Mozilla Organization (now the Mozilla Foundation) in October 2001. The original code, used by Mozilla Calendar and now the Mozilla Sunbird, was donated by OEone (now Axentra),[1] who had developed it for use in their Mozilla-based HomeBase DESKTOP system. The project was initially led by OEone employee Mike Potter. Shortly after Mike Potter and his team had to pull out of development due to other projects taking precedence[2], Mostafa Hosseini was announced as the new project lead.[3]
The initial plan was for Mozilla Calendar to eventually be integrated into the Mozilla Application Suite alongside the other components. However, this plan was dropped when Mozilla decided to focus on its nascent standalone applications rather than the integrated suite.
Mozilla Calendar could be installed as a component in the Mozilla Application Suite, or as an extension in either the Mozilla Firefox standalone browser or the Mozilla Thunderbird standalone mail and newsgroups client. 1) Browse with caret allows users to select arbitrary content with the keyboard and move through content as if inside a read-only editor. This allows copying arbitrary pieces of text to the clipboard. The F7 key toggles this feature on/off.

2) Tabbed browsing helps keyboard users by putting all of the browsed documents in one Firefox application window rather than cluttering the Alt+Tab order which makes keyboard navigation within the entire Windows OS much simpler.

3) Both history and bookmarks can be searched with a "quick search" field that quickly narrows the list down via a substring search.

4) Bookmarks can have a keyword assigned to them which can be typed into the address bar to bring up the bookmark. A "smart keywords" feature enhances this even further by allowing custom searches from the command line such as "word punditry" to look up the word "punditry" in an online dictionary. These smart keywords can be setup via the context menu for the search field on the desired website.

Mozilla Thunderbird supports many different methods for dealing with junk email (also known as "spam"). This document will describe the ways Thunderbird can deal with junk mail so you don't have to waste your time doing so.

Thunderbird's Junk Mail Controls
Junk mail controls can be set separately for each email account or, if using the global inbox feature, to all local folders. These are the available options for determining how Thunderbird should recognize and treat junk mail.

General Options
Do not mark messages as junk mail if the sender is in my address book prevents messages from being automatically marked as junk mail if the sender is listed in the selected address book. This is effectively a White List of contacts whose messages should never be treated as junk mail, and is often most useful when combined with the Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my Address Book option.
Trust junk mail headers set by will automatically recognize mail that is marked by a separate junk mail filtering program. Very often, your ISP or mail server will install such a filtering program, which adds special headers to your email before it is retrieved by Thunderbird. By setting this option, you do not have to create special filters to recognize these. Currently supports: SpamAssassin and SpamPal.
If SpamAssassin is selected, the filter checks the content of the X-Spam-Status and X-Spam-Flag headers, as well as whether **SPAM** has been inserted in the subject line of the message.
If SpamPal is selected, the filter checks the value of the X-SpamPal header.
Thunderbird reads the settings used to look for junk mail headers from files with a .sfd extension that are in the Thunderbird profile directory.

Handling
Determines what to do with junk mail when it is received
Move incoming messages determined to be junk mail to will automatically place junk mail into the specified folder upon arrival
Automatically delete junk messages older than will automatically empty the chosen junk folder and totally delete the messages
When I manually mark messages as Junk allows the user to determine whether to put manually-marked junk mail into the Junk folder or delete it immediately
When displaying HTML messages marked as junk, sanitize the HTML

Logging
Clicking the Junk Mail Log button brings up another option setting window that allows you to enable and disable logging of junk mail filtering, as well as view the log itself. Normally, it should not be necessary to enable logging.

Adaptive Filtering:
Thunderbird's primary method of dealing with junk mail is an adaptive filter. Thunderbird's adaptive filter actually learns how it should classify e-mail by learning from your habits.
If you consistently mark a certain type of e-mail as junk, Thunderbird will learn that that type of e-mail should be marked as spam in the future. However, e-mail that you wish to receive will not be marked as spam, because Thunderbird's filter is entirely based on your actions.
The filter improves as it watches how you sort your e-mail, and with time the filter will reach nearly 100% classification accuracy. More important, however, is that the filter is intentionally conservative in what it marks as junk mail. If Thunderbird can't quite decide whether an e-mail is junk or not, it will mark it as not spam. It's that simple -- after training, the filter simply doesn't create false positives.

An overview of the Minimo Project
Mozilla, the browser, is arguably one of the best desktop browsers. Mozilla is used in many desktop applications: Netscape 7, CompuServe, AOL for Mac, Ximian GNOME, Galeon, and Nautilus. There also have been a few ports to make Mozilla run on various devices such as the Nokia Media Terminal and the AOL/Gateway. With the release of Minimo, a slimmed down version of Mozilla, we offer a minimalist browser that may be the best browser in the embedded space.Minimo has two aims. First and foremost, Minimo is for embedders. The application layer of Minimo is small, and offers only the required pieces that a browser should have. This application layer will most likely be removed and replaced with an embedders application logic and UI. In this sense, Minimo is just a configuration of the Mozilla browser that is targeted at the Linux device space.The second aim is to show off the Minimo. We have been releasing an application for the GPE Palmtop Environment on the Familiar distribution. Minimo does not require any GPE specific libraries or functionality. We chose GPE as a vehicle because it is well supported and quite easy to install on many of the IPAQ devices.

Minimo requires about 25 MBs of RSS (see sidebar) on ARM. Before you think that this is too high, you must remember that this is a modern web standards complaint browser. Alternative browsers do not offer you the same level of web standards support.Figure 1 shows memory usage of Minimo against an automated page loader test. The page loader loads forty popular websites during a cycle and we run this test for five cycles. There are no shortcuts -- during each load, we download the page and render the complete content. (Some tests shortcut the drawing cycle to produces impressive page load times.)

Under the hood, the Mozilla functionality is isolated in a GTKWidget. This makes it quite easy for any developer familiar with GTK to use Minimo. Other toolkits are a possibility. Many commercial deployments are using QT. There has been work to make Mozilla work with QT, but currently there is no one exclusively working this.Problems on small devicesOne of the problems that all devices that display web pages have is a very small screen. There have been many proposed solutions to this problem. We believe that the two most promising are CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) manipulation and direct magnification.Minimo provides what is known as Small Screen Rendering (SSR) that uses CSS to massage web pages into a format that looks better on small displays. On most web pages this works great. The page is reduced so that there is no horizontal scrollbar, allowing the content to be scrolled in one direction. Main content is usually moved to the top to allow you to see what is most important without having to scroll all over the page.The second promising solution is the ability to scale a web page. Currently, most browsers (even on the desktop), only have a way to increase the font size of a page. So, when you “zoom” in a page, you are merely increasing the size of the text. An alternative to this is to do the actual scaling of all elements on a page. This will allow you to zoom out of a page and see the entire content, then with a click of the pointer, zoom in on the most interesting part of the page.CompetitionOur target for Minimo is a Linux device with around 64 MB of physical memory. As we mentioned above, Minimo runs at around 25MB of RSS. Above this, you will need a Linux distribution, GTK, and X Windows. We have been using Familiar and GPE with much success in this configuration.We have run the same tests using Opera and Pocket IE on 32MB device form factors, and neither can make it though the page load test based on their lack of browser content and standards support, or they just simply run out of memory trying to display the pages.64MB is really the form factor that is needed to create any useful browser for handheld devices; and in that space we look very good next to the competition. From discussions we have had with device makers it appears that most of the next generation cell phones and PDA devices will provide the kind of spec's you see in the current devices like the iPAQ with 64 MBs, so we are encouraged that the future is bright for Minimo being used in a variety of different handheld products.

What’s nextWe have just completed the first three milestones of the project where the focus has been:
1) Iron out build configuration to strip Mozilla down to barebones requirements and focus on stamping out memory leaks and footprint use during browsing sessions.
2) Get the Minimo configuration ported and running on the iPAQ device and handhelds.org's familiar linux distribution.
3) Do a bunch of testing and evaluation to check out the feasibility of minimo to be used on current handhelds and devices we see being used in the future.

After finishing up milestone three, things are looking very good. We have received some great feedback from individuals and companies that are following the project, with a lot of good ideas on the next round of things to work on. We are in the middle of evaluating those ideas and building a plan for the next stages of the project. We have some partners that sound very interested in funding continued development, porting, distribution, and integration of Minimo into products, so we are very encouraged about things on the horizon.

How to recover Mozilla passwords backup. ..

Close Firefox, Then in your backed up profile folders, copy the signons.txt file to the location of your current profile folder. You should get a warning : Do you want to overwrite this file, click Yes, then start Firefox and see if your passwords are restored.

You can check by : Tools -> Options -> Security -> click "Show Passwords" and then click "Show Passwords" again and confirm the action.

Otherwise copy the whole contents of the previous folder and replace the current profile folder contents with it.

Firefox hanging problem..

Problem:
Firefox gets stuck for 5 seconds and then works normally..

Solution:
Check with a new profile.

Right click on the firefox shortcut, Properties -> target, add the -p switch. Now start firefox with that shortcut. You'll get the profile selection window, click on New Profile, and start browsing in it. See if you still get the freezes.

Note : A new profile means no extensions + themes installed (you have to install all your extensions + themes again) and also 0 cache

If you use Internet Explorer you need not install the JInitiator. When accessing Banner for the first time IE will automatically prompt you through the process of downloading the JInitiator.

If you are using Firefox and JInitiator is not installed you will be asked to install a Plug In in order for Banner to work properly. The JInitiator must be installed from within Firefox. This will placed the necessary files in the correct location so that Banner will work from Firefox.

To download JInitiator for Firefox, please do the following:

1. Open Firefox.
2. Click on the below link of the version of JInitiator you need to install.
3. You will be prompted to download the file to a disk. Click OK.
4. Wait until you get a little popup screen in the lower right corner indicating the download is complete (will take a few minutes).

Make Firefox faster....

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
and browser.turbo.enabled

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. (Max can only be 8, but people report 30. The 30 open connections is incorrect)

Set "browser.turbo.enabled" to "true"

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Solution:

This is an area where there is much incompatibility.

The values pageX and pageY are part of the Mozilla set of properties, not the W3C standard DOM properties. IE doesn't know them.
The W3C standard DOM reports the mouse locations with clientX and clientY. The problem is that these do not take document scrolling into account, but just use the browser window location.

Popup blocking

Block all those popup ads. To disable popup windows, select Advanced and then Scripts & Plugins from the Preferences window. Then uncheck the box that reads "Open unrequested windows".
Prevent scripts from doing various things

You can prevent scripts from moving windows, closing them, changing the status bar and setting cookies. To change these settings, select Advanced and then Scripts & Plugins from the Preferences window. Then uncheck the desired boxes.
Site Navigation toolbar

Displays content from the tags provided by a document, allowing one to navigate to various parts of a site.
Sidebar

The sidebar provides a number of tabs by default, and others can be added by the user.

IE has something like this, which is intended for synchronizing content for offline viewing. It can only check once per day, and provides no notification that the page has changed other than changing the icon or sending an email. Mozilla can check updates on certain days only and at any interval.
Cookie Manager

The cookie manager lets you view the cookies that have been set, their values and their expiry times.

Some people have mentioned that one can view Cookies by pressing a View Files button in the Options, but that just provides a list of all cached files. While the list does include cookies, hidden amongst the other files, it isn't tailored to cookies (it is just a generic file listing), so one cannot really view the data or expiry times easily.
Can delete cookies individually

The cookie manager lets you delete individual cookies without having to search around your file system. In IE's file view, it's tricky to distinguish cookies from similar domains, and all cookies from the same domain are stored in the same file.
Block images from third party sites

One can block images that come from a third party domain. This means that you can block images found on a page that come from a site other than that of the page. To set this in Mozilla, open Privacy & Security from the Preferences Window, and then select the Images panel. Choose "Accept images that come from the originating server only".
Can block images from certain sites

Images can be blocked from particular domains, such as those that commonly display ads. You can disable an image from a site by right-clicking on an image, and then selecting "Block images from this Server". You can change the list of blocked images from the Image Manager, opened from the Tools menu.
Download Manager

The download manager provides a tabular view of all of the files that you have ever downloaded, allowing you to open them without having to search around on your file system. It provides progress indicators in the window as items download.

On the topic of downloading files, IE does not begin to download a file until you have selected where to save it to, while Mozilla begins as soon as the link is clicked, downloading in the background while you are selecting a place to save it.

1) Visual Refresh: Firefox 2's theme and user interface have been updated to improve usability without altering the familiarity of the browsing experience.

2) Built-in phishing protection: Phishing Protection warns users when they encounter suspected Web forgeries, and offers to return the user to their home page. Phishing Protection is turned on by default, and works by checking sites against either a local or online list of known phishing sites. This list is automatically downloaded and regularly updated when the Phishing Protection feature is enabled.

3) Enhanced search capabilities: Search term suggestions will now appear as users type in the integrated search box when using the Google, Yahoo! or Answers.com search engines. A new search engine manager makes it easier to add, remove and re-order search engines, and users will be alerted when Firefox encounters a website that offers new search engines that the user may wish to install.

4) Improved tabbed browsing: By default, Firefox will open links in new tabs instead of new windows, and each tab will now have a close tab button. Power users who open more tabs than can fit in a single window will see arrows on the left and right side of the tab strip that let them scroll back and forth between their tabs. The History menu will keep a list of recently closed tabs, and a shortcut lets users quickly re-open an accidentally closed tab.

5) Resuming your browsing session: The Session Restore feature restores windows, tabs, text typed in forms, and in-progress downloads from the last user session. It will be activated automatically when installing an application update or extension, and users will be asked if they want to resume their previous session after a system crash.

6) Previewing and subscribing to Web feeds: Users can decide how to handle Web feeds (like this one), either subscribing to them via a Web service or in a standalone RSS reader, or adding them as Live Bookmarks. My Yahoo!, Bloglines and Google Reader come pre-loaded as Web service options, but users can add any Web service that handles RSS feeds.

7) Inline spell checking: A new built-in spell checker enables users to quickly check the spelling of text entered into Web forms (like this one) without having to use a separate application.

8) Live Titles: When a website offers a microsummary (a regularly updated summary of the most important information on a Web page), users can create a bookmark with a "Live Title". Compact enough to fit in the space available to a bookmark label, they provide more useful information about pages than static page titles, and are regularly updated with the latest information. There are several websites that can be bookmarked with Live Titles, and even more add-ons to generate Live Titles for other popular websites.

9) Improved Add-ons manager: The new Add-ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes, combining them both in a single tool.

10) JavaScript 1.7: JavaScript 1.7 is a language update introducing several new features such as generators, iterators, array comprehensions, let expressions, and destructuring assignments. It also includes all the features of JavaScript 1.6.
11) Extended search plugin format: The Firefox search engine format now supports search engine plugins written in Sherlock and OpenSearch formats and allows search engines to provide search term suggestions.

12) Updates to the extension system: The extension system has been updated to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions.

13) Client-side session and persistent storage: New support for storing structured data on the client side, to enable better handling of online transactions and improved performance when dealing with large amounts of data, such as documents and mailboxes. The biggest advantage in using Firefox over I.E. is the fact that spyware does not get on your machine nearly as much, I.E. will attract at least 60% more spyware than Firefox. Spyware might not seem like a big deal but over time your machine will collect it like wax collects in your ears. It will slow your PC down and problems will begin from that point.
The difference in speed is an asset in itself.
It is safer, it is not the target of so many hackers as Internet Explorer. I also like the tab browsing. If you want, you can set it up so when you close the browser, a window will show asking you if you want to erase everything for security reasons. In Internet Explorer you have to go to Internet Options and click of erase history and cookies. It is faster and more convenient in Firefox.
It comes out with features faster then IE. Also it is better for debugging. It is more stable and is supported on more platforms. Although there are some issues with extensions and plugins on Vista.
Firefox uses much less RAM and has a great google search bar installed in the top right corner of the browser.
When you refresh pages, images or videos that haven't loaded properly, firefox allows the entire image to reload, whereas explorer stops reloading where the image previously stopped loading.
